A Perennial Meadow/Garden has always been on my wish list – but the right spot did not present itself until we put in the path to complete the “Edna Walling Walk” which goes around all of Uccello Lane. It is also outside my bedroom window so something to see each morning was an added bonus. There was a lot to do before we could plant out – new soil and lots of mulch as well as making the path as part of the “stroll around” Uccello Lane!
I did not want a straight line but instead a “wave of color” so for the first year (2019) we planted everything that we thought would flower, bulbs and a visit to Antique Perennials provided a few different options/inspiration AND a packet of poppy seeds! The first year blooms were colourful but it was a bit messy – later on when we added some stepping stones and some grasses it all took shape.
This year (2024) we added a “rabbit proof fence” a pathway, some gates and a seat – it looks spectacular. The kookaburra’s use it as a lookout and we can now put in ground covers without them being eaten!
