Heading into 2025 with gardening plans sitting here in 40 degree heat – it is a good time to reflect on what we did! There are many important happenings that deserve to be noted in 2024. But then in late December a carpet Python was discovered in the Loquat tree. To say we were shocked does not even begin to describe it. As you can see from the video that is one long snake.
After much expert discussion it is thought to be an escaped pet! I now avoid this area of the garden just in case. When watching the video all the action happens in the top couple of inches.
Then there was the “making safe” of the huge yellow box which had slowly died and formed the end of the “La Pegola”. This involved cranes and many high up guys from Trav’s Trees – it was nerve wracking to say the least. It is now a “native habitat” and birds (mainly ducks and king parrots) sit there and use it as a look out.

As keen bird lovers having a sighting of a pair of Gang Gang Cockatoo having a drink over a very hot period in the summer was so exciting – they are in the endangered category – which means it is at high risk of extinction with a large decline in its numbers due to the climate crisis and the bushfire disasters. Gang Gangs are smallish birds with the male having distinctive scarlet red head and crest, with the rest of the body slate-grey. The female has a dark grey head and crest, with the feathers of the underparts edged pink and yellow. So try to imagine how we felt when 10 plus Gang Gangs arrived on a front deck for a drink and a chat – yes we captured this on video but almost lost our mind with excitement.

Next thing is 25 native orchids (mostly the same variety) and 30 clivias are all now at the lane! By the end of 2024 they had recovered and were starting to show recovery. We had moved them to the Secret Garden with the idea of their final spot will be the Fernery
