Planning for the Open Garden October 2022

Open Garden – October 2022
We had been through 3 lockdowns – 2 postponements but finally yes – via  Open Gardens Victoria on October 15th & 16th 2022- Uccello Lane was open for everyone to see.
It is a dream come true – we have been at Uccello Lane for nearly 10 years and done so much – it was great to have others enjoy it!
What a weekend!
In the weeks leading up the weather was torrential and so much rain there was flooding in some country towns.
Adam from Three Colors Green who has been on this journey with us – redid the road with 120 square metres of granitic sand and stone and worked tirelessly every day through rain and hail and blazing sun – Melbourne weather eh!
Also Trav’s Trees came and pruned and made sure all the gums were in good shape.
We spent the weeks leading up to October 15th getting the paths and seating in place everything to make it easier for people to move around – safely! It was a later spring and it just kept raining!

The electrics had to be put in for the bird bath we had constructed out of a tree trunk, the pathways and road redone (120 cubic metres) and the tiles in the Secret Garden had a tap that had to be running. The roses except for the peach one in the veggie garden were still a couple of weeks away but the Iris, Jerusalem Sage, Crab Apples, Callistemon and of course the artichokes were just loving all this rain. There was weeding everywhere, rubbish to be cleaned away and bricks washed and de-moulded – it was a lot of work!

But the weather for the weekend was perfect – 350 people came and strolled around – lots of questions and congratulations on a job well done! The highlights were: Secret Garden with the new tiled wall from Mary Lou Pittard and the running water, The waterfall under the Boardwalk, Chooks, Kitchen Garden and artichokes.
