Chooks are very important to us at Uccello Lane. We had several goes at it but eventually we were always defeated by the fox!

So after we lost our last flock to a fox – we decided to rebuild from the bottom up – and did everything we could the new hen house fox proof. There were nesting boxes made – two cages together one for sleeping one for playing – it was very luxurious! This took a year but finally we were ready to restock with 9 new ones including 2 silkies!.

The chooks are pumping out 8 eggs a day – and they love their greens. The flock was chosen firstly on looks then on productivity.

Silkies were obviously just for show!
