The Art Deco ceramics are distinctive and there was a vase with bold orange pattern which we used as a pencil holder and once put through the dishwasher to clean. Watching the Antique Roadshow a similar one was assessed as being a Clarice Cliff from her Bizarre range – the vase was quickly and gently cleaned and put in a locked cabinet! This started a serious interest in not only Clarice but art deco in general
There is still a classic Art Deco house in Bendigo that I remember from the 60’s with curtains specially made to accommodate the rounded windows. Mostly it is all about the gates, the curved metal windows, the brick capping – the perfect lines!
